Website Development: Do It Like A Pro

Companies make millions doing what you can yourself. Avoid being scammed and learn the techniques you need to build a creative and effective site. Begin by following these tips.

Choose proper graphic for your web designs. Bitmap images require a lot of disk space and are unwieldy. Try using PNGs for images that are not photos or text buttons or if an image has over 256 colors. Use GIFs for something with less than 256 colors. JPEG works best for photo images.

Maintain normal-sized pages. Users with slower Internet connections may decide that the wait is not worth it if your site is slow to load. If the wait is too long, your visitors may give up and leave.

Outdated Information

Always, always remove old or outdated information off your website. For example, if your webpage is filled with advertising for something that happened months ago, viewers will turn away. It is an expectation from users that you maintain the site and keep your information fresh, or else they think your site is ill-kept or abandoned. Set a schedule to review the site, to ensure that outdated information is removed, and fresh new content is added in its place.

Use a sensible background for your site. Some sites use moving GIFs in the background, but that can make text hard to read. In order to preserve your website’s focus, and make it easy for your visitors to comprehend, you should choose a background image that harmonizes well with your site instead of clashing with it.

Have the data that users enter into fields preserved so that it can be transferred over to other portions of the site where the same information has to be filled out. For instance, if a visitor registers for your newsletter and they are going to use the same information to make a purchase, be sure the data they’ve already entered is kept, so they do not have to re-enter the same information. This information retention and re-use makes site transactions much easier, and many people will appreciate that.

No matter the niche or what the intent of the site is, you must aim to make them have 10 second or less loading times. Efficient sites should be visible in seconds so the viewer does not get side tracked. The majority of online users demand instant gratification, and it is in your best interest to provide it.

With some basic web design concepts, you can figure out what works best for you. The process can be a lot of fun. Use the tips you’ve read here, and start applying them to your own site.
